As a school we completed a digital citizenship week during our advisory period. In completing this task the students and teachers created a compass of appropriate technology usage. These compass were displayed in classrooms as a visual learning tool to help students understand what was appropriate in using technology in a multitude of situations. The students could refer to the enlarged visual on the wall to help explain the different technological situations they come across as a middle school student.

Digital Citizenship. Educational Administrators model and facilitate understanding of social, ethical, and legal issues and responsibilities related to an evolving digital culture. As a leader of a diversity group at my school I have openly encouraged the group to think outside the box to find innovative ideas using internet resources. Through this we are trying to let all students understand what struggles students with disibilities deal with.

As Educational Administrators we could model and facilitate the development of a shared cultural understanding and involvement in global issues by understanding what is happening in Haiti and all over the world using communication and collaboration tools to allow the public and other schools to see what our school district is doing to help those in need.

In the field of education we as teachers and administrators need to model what is safe and ethical for the studnets to use and participate in. The use of technology in schools is imparitve to todays day and age. It helps increase the overall quality of schools and the student learning in them. With this new technology placed on students and teachers, everyone involved needs to be very careful as well as knowledgeable about how and what they do with it. Technology in schools is wonderful but at the same time can create some problems when used by people who mis-use it. I feel after teachers, administrators and studnets are all made aware of the wondeful positives as well as warned of the negatives from improper use we as schools can use technology to really help our schoosl and studnets.

Carri Oslager: 5 A: This one can be difficult to make happen during tough economic times. There just isn't enough money to make this happen in real life. That doesn't mean that is shouldn't happen, but it might be difficult for an administrator to find the money for technology (even knowing it's needed) when there are immediate requirements that have to be met.

5A: It is a challenge to make sure that students have equal access to technology. Keeping the technology flexible allows students to more readily adapt to their individual needs. My students contact me online, through email, bring in flashdrives with projects or print out what they can't send. For those with fewer computer options, the variety of formats allows them to still complete the project. I have learned that if they can produce the content in some fashion that meets my expectations for their learning, that at least some of the time, which format it arrives in is not quite so important. I think it is imperative that administrators work to leave as much latitude in the school's technology as possible. There is little so frustrating as not to get an assignment from a student who has done the work because the school's system won't let it through the filter or can't access that type of file. An awareness of the compatability options among programs and the teachers' knowledge of the technological possibilities is an important item to track as an administrator as well.
